Rising 8th Grade Registration
Hello 7th Grade Walton families!
This page has been designed to support 7th grade students and their families with the 8th course registration process. Information regarding transition will be provided to students and families during February 2026. If you have questions as you navigate through this process, please contact your child's school counselor, Doug Bloor (dbloor@k12albemarle.org)
Transition Timeline
- November 14, 2025: Course registration information is shared with 7th grade families.
- November 19, 2025: Virtual course registration meeting for all grade levels from 6:00-7:00. Link Coming.
- December 1, 2025: Course Planner opens in SchooLinks for students to select courses.

- December 1-5, 2025: Counselors visit 7th grade students in PE to discuss course options.
- December 8-12, 2025: 7th grade students select courses in SchooLinks Course Planner in classrooms with subject teachers.
- January 7, 2026: Course Planner closes in SchooLinks closes for course registration.
- Changes after this date must be made by your school counselor.
- Students submit Course Plans in SchooLinks during Advisory+.
- January 12 - March 6, 2026: Students meet with their school counselor to finalize course requests and academic and career plan.
- February 27, 2026: Course verification letters are sent to families.
- March 9-20, 2026: Teachers comment on math course selections.
- March 1, 2026: All academic and career plans should be signed by the student, counselor and parent/guardian.
- April 3, 2026: Last day for course request changes.
- May 29, 2026: By this date, teachers will review SOL scores & student requests. Teachers will contact families if a change in placement is warranted.
- Early August 2026, Date TBD: Student schedules made available to families.
8th Grade Classes
Middle School Courses 2026-2027
- Language Arts- Language Arts 8, every other day
- Math- Every other day. Three levels are available:
- Math 8
- Algebra I (high school credit course)
- Geometry (high school credit course)
- Science 8- Physical Science, every other day
- History- Civics and Economics, every other day
- Health/PE- Every other day
- Electives- Click here for the list of elective courses available in 8th grade.
- Note: Classes advertised may not run in 2026-2027 due to low student interest or staffing constraints.

Starting with an A day on the first day of school, our days rotate between A and B all year. If we miss a day due to weather, workday, etc., we simply pick up on the next scheduled day.

- Algebra I (7th or 8th grade)

- Spanish I (8th Grade)
- Spanish for Fluent Speakers (8th Grade)
- French I (8th Grade)
How to access your guardian SchooLinks account:
Your SchooLinks account has been created using the email address associated to your PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account. To log into the SchooLinks account that has been created for you, please follow these instructions:
- Visit app.schoolinks.com
- Sign-in using one of the options below:
- If the email you use for your PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account is a Google account, Click Log in with Google.
- For non-Google accounts, Click Forgot Password, enter the email you use for your PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account, then follow the email instructions to create a password.
If you do not have a PowerSchool Public (Parent) Portal account, please reach out to your student's school for information about creating one. SchooLinks accounts will be created overnight once your PowerSchool Public Portal account has been created.
