Good Evening, WMS Students and Families,
I want to officially welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. Earlier today, I sent the ACPS Middle School daily schedule to students for the start of the year. In addition to the daily schedule we have some other information to share regarding the return to school. Please remember that the ACPS Return-to-School website contains a wealth of information regarding starting the school year.
Student schedules will be released to families via the PowerSchool Parent Portal on August 24, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. If you do not have a Parent Portal login please contact Karen Collier at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We know that you have been wondering about what school supplies will be needed for virtual learning. Essentially, they are similar to what we would require for in-person learning, but we tried to pare it down some, but also made sure that upon a return to in-person learning students will have what they need. Back-School Night-Thursday, August 27-6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.
Usually we are able to host an informal Open House with families to start the school year and allow families to meet staff. This year we will be running more of a Back-to-School Night model where families will visit each Quarter One class to meet the teacher and staff working with students and learn a little bit about the year to come.
More information with Zoom links will be sent out next week for accessing all classes. Families who have internet access challenges are encouraged to visit an ACPS school parking lot or outdoor area where wireless internet is being broadcast to attend Back-to-School night via Zoom. All ACPS schools are broadcasting wireless access to parking lots.
One More Family Meeting
Unfortunately, the Family Meeting that was thought to be recorded was not. With this in mind, I will look to host one more Family Information Session the week before school begins to make sure all questions are answered prior to school starting. I apologize that this was not done, but hopefully you will find the session prior to school more useful as you will have more information at that time.
We will be distributing new computers to our new sixth graders starting on Monday, August 24. Please use the Computer Distribution Sign Up Genius to sign up for a 15 minute time slot. We will distribute to your car when you pull up. Please be sure to have your student login or login for them before leaving campus, so that the computer can attach to our network to receive updates.
Seventh and Eighth grade students who dropped off a computer for repair in the spring or summer can pick up their computer at this time as well. Please use the Sign Up Genius above to reserve a slot for pickup.
2020-21 School Meals Program: Sign-Up by August 21
Last Friday, the Child Nutrition Program shared important information with school families about our school meals program for the coming school year. New this year, families are required to register students to receive school meals. Parents or guardians may register their child to receive school meals by completing our 2020-21 School Meals Sign-Up Form by Friday, August 21.
For details about the ACPS student meals program, including cost, delivery information, menus, and the 2020-21 Free and Reduced Meal Application, please read the August 14 community message. This information is also featured on our Return to School website.
