This Week's Message

WMS Family Message 9-23-22

Greetings, WMS Students and Families,

This is a reminder that Monday, September 26 is a student holiday. Staff will be participating in professional development activities on Monday.

If you have not taken the time to update all contact information for this upcoming school year using the Registration Verification in Parent Portal please take some time to do that. This provides us with updated contact information, as well as provides information for families for the year.  This window will close at the end of the day on Friday, September 30, 2022, to complete necessary updates. You can follow the process on this page: https://www.k12albemarle.org/for-families/student-registration/registration-verification

If additional questions regarding this or need a Parent Portal log in, contact Karen Collier, Counseling Office at Walton Middle School at (434) 977-6533 for further assistance

This is a reminder that if your child is absent you can report the absence using: wmsattendance@k12albemarle.org. Additionally, there is a button directly below the spotlight on the WMS Homepage.

Student Pickup-PLEASE USE LOOP

If you are picking up your student(s) at dismissal, please be sure to use the loop (to the right of the school) and overflow line (lower parking lot). Picking up students in the parking lot is not safe with cars backing out and leaving that area.

Fall Pictures are September 27

We will have Fall Pictures on September 27. You can pre-order through Strawbridge Studios at www.strawbridge.net (Use code FM405538). You can view packages here: WMS Fall Picture Poster 2.pdf

ACPS Technology Family Field Guide

Please look for a copy of the 2nd edition of the ACPS Technology Family Field Guide, titled “Keeping Our Kids Safe and Healthy in a Digital World,” to come home with your child in the coming days. This guide answers important questions about the use of technology in school and provides you with helpful resources and conversation starters about healthy technology use at home.

As a reminder, digital copies are also viewable on the division’s For Families page of the ACPS website.

Upcoming Surveys

We have some surveys coming up to administer to students in October. You can read more about each of these surveys below. The purpose of all of these surveys is to gather feedback from students and to use the data to improve our school climate and learning community. You can read more details here: WMS Fall Survey Family Letter

8th Grade Field Trip to Washington D.C. on October 13

Walton's annual 8th-grade trip to DC is back! Students received the permission slip earlier this week on bright orange paper. (Click here for Spanish version.) There are limited chaperone spaces (21 and older to chaperone), so please reach out quickly if you'd like to join your child on the trip. Permission slips are due by October 7th and no late forms will be accepted.

Walton Middle School Spirit Wear Store

You can order WMS spiritwear from Rivanna Gear and Apparel at the link above. While we don’t really make a profit from this effort we love to see students in gear showing their spirit and we will be holding our first spirit week in October.

Early Morning Arrival Request

We have limited space for some students to arrive no earlier than 8:20 a.m. starting on September 6. Students must register if this is a consistent plan. If it is a random/emergency occurrence please let the Main Office know by calling 434-977-5615. You can register for regular early arrival here: WMS Early Arrival Registration 22-23 Students arriving early as part of this program will report directly to the library for morning study hall.
