Student celebrates award with friends

The Most Important Lesson of the Day

Here along the Baker-Butler route, School Bus Driver Glenn Bernhardt and Sherry Lewis from Child Nutrition are among those in our division who are providing students with a nutritious and energetic start to their learning day. We appreciate, too, Kelly Woodson, a transportation aide who doubled as the photographer.

Research tells us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, a source for the strength and endurance that empowers children to learn at their highest potential.  Despite its value, more than a third of all children in the U. S. go without breakfast.

This week marks the 33rd annual celebration of National School Breakfast Week and here in Albemarle County, it provides the opportunity to honor the service of our Child Nutrition and Transportation team members. Through their dedication and even in a pandemic, nearly 8,000 breakfasts and lunches are provided throughout the county each school day to students and their siblings under the age of 18.
